Selita, Solange and Cassie Named New Carol’s Daughter Spokeswomen

By April 19, 2011tgin + news

Singer Cassie, Victoria Secret model Selita Ebanks and Singer/Songwriter and DJ to the stars Solange Knowles have all recently been named the new faces for Carol’s Daughter.

The recent business venture was made public not too long ago with all three ladies doing a photo shoot for WWD magazine. Inside the mag, a spokesperson for Carol’s Daughter (owned by Lisa Price and Music Industry Steve Stout) said the reason why all three of these ladies were picked was because Carol’s Daughter aims to try and provide different faces for beauty that cannot easily be placed into a box.

Cassie, who is also a model and is signed to Sean Combs Bad Boy label, is African-American and Filipino. Ebanks, grew up in the Cayman Islands and is of Jamaican, Irish, and Indian heritage and Knowles is African-American and French Creole descent.

Stout had this to add.

“They will serve as cultural ambassadors in bringing forth this acceptance that the definition of beauty is now colorless,” Stout said. “There are no longer boxes of white, black, Latina, Asian. More and more woman are now checking the ‘other’ box.”

Ahhh, I don’t know Mr. Stout.

A lot of people bit peeved that these three have been chosen to represent the product line. Some say that despite their different ethnic backgrounds, Knowles, Cassie and Ebanks are all light-skinned women who have been chosen to showcase “versatile beauty.”

Despite their national DNA make up, on the outside one could argue their all alike. Yes, all these women are gorgeous and all of them are stars in their own right. So what’s the big deal? Would it have been so hard to throw in a brown skin sistah to level the playing field.

What do you think? You think Carol and her daughter tried but failed to showcase different beauty, or do we as black women just need to get over the whole light skin vs dark skin issue?
