DIY: 100% Natural Winter Shield Lip balm

Cold  weather is approaching fast and if you are anything like me, you probably spend a lot of time in winter wondering where you put your Chapstick. With this DIY recipe, you won’t have to keep reloading on lip balms – you can just make your own. You can either recycle Chapstick containers that have run out, recycle the tin from an old pack of mints, or you can buy containers from craft stores or online. These make great little gifts and are also good to just keep for yourself! This moisturizing recipe yields 12, or you can half the ingredients for 6.

You Will Need:

  • 2 tbs. beeswax
  • 2 tbs. coconut oil
  • 2 tbs. shea butter
  • 12 small lip balm containers (or any small tin – Altoids tins work great)
  • A dropper
  • 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oils for smell (optional)
  • 5-10 drops of your favorite extracts for taste (optional)

  1. Melt beeswax in a small pan over low heat. (Use a pan you don’t mind ruining). Add coconut oil, shea butter, essential oils and/or extracts. Mix together until melted and completely blended.
  2. Use the dropper to add liquid oil mixture to lip balm containers. The balm will reduce in size as it cools, so add a few extra drops at the end.
  3. Let cool completely and the mixture will solidify.
  4. Cover containers with cap. Add a decorative label if you’re feeling crafty and introduce your lips to their new best friend.
